How it works

Calculate lumber volume in board feet — the standard US measure for dimensional lumber.

Who it's for: Carpenters, lumber buyers, and woodworkers pricing or ordering lumber.

Formula: (thickness × width × length) ÷ 12 with thickness and width in inches, length in feet.

Board feet measure nominal dimensions, not actual dressed size.

One board foot equals 144 cubic inches of wood.

How to use

  1. Enter Thickness in inches (nominal, e.g., 2 for a 2×6).
  2. Enter Width in inches.
  3. Enter Length in feet.
  4. Read Board feet for the volume.
