How it works

Find the maximum f-stop before diffraction visibly softens image sharpness.

Who it's for: Photographers balancing depth of field against pixel-level sharpness.

Based on pixel pitch (pixels/mm) and light wavelength.

Stopping down beyond the limit trades DOF for resolution loss.

Default ~200 pixels/mm suits 24 MP full-frame sensors.

How to use

  1. Enter Pixels/mm and wavelength λ (nm).
  2. Read Max f/ (≈) as the practical diffraction ceiling.
