BSA
1.84 m²

How it works

Calculates body surface area (BSA) in square meters using the Mosteller formula.

Who it's for: Nursing students, pharmacists, and clinicians referencing BSA for dosing or fluid calculations.

Mosteller: BSA (m²) = √((height cm × weight kg) / 3600).

Accepts US inputs in pounds and inches with internal conversion.

Standard adult reference range is roughly 1.6–2.0 m² depending on size.

How to use

  1. Enter Weight in pounds.
  2. Enter Height in inches.
  3. Read BSA in m² — used for chemotherapy, some biologics, and burn formulas.
  4. Compare to typical adult values for sanity checking.
  5. Use the BSA-based dose calculator if you have a mg/m² protocol dose to apply.
  6. Pediatric patients may need age-specific formulas not covered here.

Good to know

  • Mosteller is widely used in US hospitals but some protocols specify Du Bois — follow your institution's standard.
