Reference classification. Consult a physician if readings are abnormal.
How it works
Classifies a blood pressure reading using simplified AHA/ACC-style categories in mmHg.
Who it's for: Home BP monitor users, hypertensive patients tracking readings, and wellness screenings.
Takes systolic (top) and diastolic (bottom) values in mmHg.
Assigns category: Normal, Elevated, Stage 1, Stage 2 hypertension, or Crisis.
Uses the higher category when systolic and diastolic fall in different stages.
How to use
- Rest seated for 5 minutes with feet flat and arm supported at heart level.
- Enter Systolic — the first/larger number (e.g., 120).
- Enter Diastolic — the second/smaller number (e.g., 80).
- Read Blood pressure formatted as systolic/diastolic.
- Check Category against AHA guidelines.
- If Stage 2 or Crisis, contact your doctor promptly; Crisis (≥180/120) may need emergency care.
Good to know
- Take two readings one minute apart and average — single readings can be misleading.
- Home monitors should be validated and cuff size must match arm circumference.
FAQ
- What is normal blood pressure?
- Under current US guidelines, normal is below 120/80 mmHg. Elevated is 120–129 systolic with diastolic under 80.
